Global transport and logistics provider DSV has placed an order for 300 Volvo electric trucks, one of the vehicle manufacturer's largest commercial deals.
The order is part of DSV's larger initiative to reduce emissions. By 2030, it plans to add 2,000 heavy electric trucks to its fleet, making it one of the largest EV fleets in Europe.
In addition to 300 electric vehicles, DSV requested 500 Volvo trucks with diesel and gas drivelines.
"Collaboration across sectors is key to battle climate change, and we are happy to extend our partnership with Volvo in our joint effort to reduce emissions in the transport industry," commented Søren Schmidt, CEO DSV Road, in a statement.
The trucks are expected to be delivered between 2024 and 2026. Volvo has delivered more than 3,800 electric vehicles to 46 customers globally since 2019, according to the company.
DSV has already deployed electric trucks in Sweden and Denmark and implemented a solar-powered charging infrastructure in both countries.
Schmidt added, "As a global leader in logistics, we must try to stay at the forefront of the green transition and this agreement is a fantastic example of how new technologies can be brought to market at scale to make them more accessible for our customers. The deal with Volvo is an important step towards enabling a more sustainable future in trucking."
