Republic Adds 20 CNG Waste, Recycling Trucks in Missouri

Republic Services Inc. has added 20 compressed natural gas (CNG) waste and recycling trucks in Springfield, Mo.

The Phoenix-based Republic said the replacement of the older diesel trucks serving the greater Springfield area brings the total number of CNG trucks Republic operates in Missouri to 119, according to a news release.

Republic installed a new CNG fueling station at its Springfield site to support its fleet of CNG trucks. One-third of the company’s trucks serving the Springfield area are now powered by natural gas, the firm said.

"This fleet addition represents a significant local investment in cleaner, safer and more efficient vehicles,” said Jeff Kintzle, Republic area president.

Republic employs 130 at its Springfield site, which serves 20 municipalities and more than 5,000 commercial customers in the area. The company operates two transfer stations in the area, as well as the Prairie View Landfill, which includes a renewable energy project. The project generates enough electricity to power 4,500 homes.  

Republic operates a fleet of more than 2,200 CNG vehicles and 38 natural gas fueling stations nationwide. About 50 percent of all Republic vehicles purchased in 2014 are powered by CNG.
