Republic Adds CNG Waste, Recycling Trucks in New England

Republic Services Inc. has added 56 compressed natural gas (CNG) waste and recycling trucks to serve customers throughout the South Shore and South Coast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The Phoenix-based Republic said in a news release that it also is installing a natural gas fueling station to support its new CNG fleet in Fall River, Mass.

The new CNG fleet replaces existing diesel-powered trucks.

Republic serves more than 245,000 residential and 15,000 commercial customers throughout the South Shore and South Coast of Massachusetts, as well as in Rhode Island. The Company owns two local hauling divisions, a recycling processing center and a landfill, and employs 242 in the region.

The latest move continues Republic’s flurry off CNG waste and recycling truck deployments. In October the company announced the addition of 67 CNG trucks for southern New Jersey and Philadelphia, and 53 trucks for the Charleston, S.C., metropolitan area. Republic said about 50 percent of the vehicles it buys in 2013 will be powered by a domestic fuel source.
