A Sobering Cleanup

Trash that has been discarded of improperly has been known to cause such ill effects as ground contamination, but now it's causing an equally sobering problem. Because an impromptu July 4th celebration resulted in heaps of trash being left behind along the American River, Sacramento County, Calif., is considering banning alcohol along such sites on major holidays. According to county officials, the Independence Day trash cleanup took more than 25 truckloads to clear up. Some county officials believe an alcohol ban on the river during summer holidays will help minimize cleanup costs because the trash mostly consisted of beer cans and bottles. Who knew going back to Prohibition times could solve the water's waste problems…
