Swana has announced the winners of its 2006 Excellence Awards, which recognize programs, operations and facilities that are innovative and committed to the environment.
Awards were given in eight divisions encompassing 12 categories. The divisions included collection and transfer, landfill management, and waste reduction, recycling and composting.
U.S.-based winners of gold awards include Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County — Puente Hills Materials Recovery Facility; Puget Sound (Wash.) Recycling Agencies/Department of Ecology; Interior Removal Specialist, California; and the Alliance Landfill in Pennsylvania. Denver Solid Waste Management/Denver Recycles earned the association's innovation award.
The recipients will be honored at WASTECON 2006 in Charlotte, N.C. For a complete list, visit www.swana.org.
