Covanta Partners with 4 Conn. Cities for Sustainable Waste Management
Waste-to-energy company Covanta Energy Corp. has partnered with four Connecticut cities for sustainable waste management.
The Morristown, N.J.–based Covanta reached agreements withNewington, East Hartford, Guilford and Madison for services that include sustainable waste disposal, recycling and composting, Covanta said in a news release.
Through the agreements municipalities can bundle services, saving money on disposal costs and get a rebate for recycling. Covanta said it canoffer shorter queue times for waste haulers, resulting in greater efficiency.
The new contracts, which last from three to five years, represent approximately 45,000 tons of municipal solid waste per year.
Covanta operates area waste-to-energy facilities in Wallingford, Bristol and Preston, Conn., as well as Springfield, Mass.
“These towns did not want to landfill, and we heard them loud and clear,” said Steve Diaz, Covanta vice president and regional business manager. “Covanta’s infrastructure and strategic relationships in the region enable us to provide sustainable waste management solutions at affordable, stable rates.“
