The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing a rule revision on the export of cathode ray tubes (CRTs) for recycling or reuse that would require additional reporting information from exporters.

The proposal would revise a 2006 EPA rule to allow the agency to better track CRT exports for recycling and reuse, according to the proposal in the Federal Register. The agency also would get more information on CRT shipments sent for reuse.

The EPA believes the rule change will better ensure proper management of the CRTs.

The proposed rule change would not affect any domestic CRT management.

The EPA estimates the rule would cost CRT exporters and the EPA from $7,300 to $11,500 per year for the reporting and recordkeeping requirements.
