The Knoxville, Tenn., City Council will vote on its new solid waste provider on Tuesday, October 10, 2016. This follows its recent decision to allow the city to purchase 60,000 90-gallon garbage carts.
The City Council will review a $2.9 million contract submitted by Waste Connections of Tennessee, the city’s current solid waste provider, and four other submitted proposals from FCC, Red River Waste Solutions, Santek Waste Services of Tennessee and Waste Pro.

Two weeks after dutifully voting to allow the city to purchase 60,000 90-gallon garbage carts for the new garbage contract, the members of Knoxville City Council will have a familiar choice Tuesday when it votes on the new solid waste provider.
The Public Service Department has asked City Council to approve the contract submitted by Waste Connections of Tennessee, the city's current provider. The company submitted a $2.9 million bid, down from its current $4.9 million a year contract it has held for over a decade.
Throughout the company's proposal it submitted to the city, it claimed experience and said it would be able to save the city money.
