NWRA Joins Our Roads, Our Safety Coalition
The coalition aims to improve safety on America’s roadways by providing motorists with tools and knowledge to operate safely around large trucks.
The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) announced it has joined the Our Roads, Our Safety coalition led by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The coalition aims to improve safety on America’s roadways by providing motorists with tools and knowledge to operate safely around large trucks.
“NWRA is committed to making our industry safer,” says NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith. “Our member companies have been diligent in providing advanced safety training for drivers and those who hop-off the trucks to make collections. We are pleased to join FMCSA’s Our Roads, Our Safety coalition to make our roads safer.”
Road safety is a top priority for NWRA. The association has long championed legislation, known as Slow Down to Get Around, in state legislatures that requires drivers to slow down and safely change lanes when approaching solid waste and recycling vehicles from behind. Over the past four years, NWRA member companies and its chapters nationwide have successfully championed Slow Down to Get Around legislation, which is now the law in 22 states.
