NWRA Women’s Council Awards Five $7,500 Scholarships
The scholarship program has awarded close to $170,000 since its inception.
The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) Women’s Council has announced this year’s recipients of its educational scholarship program, with each recipient receiving $7,500 to pursue education that will lead to productive careers in the environmental industry.
The recipients are Andy Phomparkdy of Aria Energy, Ashley Somers of Casella Waste Systems, Elizabeth Rainville of Recology, Juliet Varga of Waste Management, Inc. and Selena McBride of Republic Services. Phomparkdy, Somers and McBride are employees, while Rainville and Varga are the dependents of employees.
All NWRA member company employees and their dependents are eligible to apply for the scholarships. Since the program’s start in 2007, the council has awarded almost $170,000 in scholarships.
This year’s scholarships came in part from a fundraising campaign, with Environmental Solutions Group, McNeilus, the Detachable Containers Association, Waste Management, Republic Services and Advanced Disposal Services all contributing to the awards.
