Penton’s Waste and Sustainability Group has promoted Mark Hickey to market leader.

Hickey, who has been the group’s sales director, will oversee the strategic direction for editorial and event-based products as well as sales and marketing, for WasteExpo, Waste360.com and Waste360 magazine.

"We are very pleased to have Mark in this expanded role," said Warren Bimblick, senior vice president, strategy and business development for the New York-based Penton, in a news release. "After re-joining Penton at the beginning of the year as group sales director, Mark hit the ground running – and this new role will bring his strategic thinking to the entire business. His vast experience in events, marketing services and association relationships will be a huge asset in the midst of a time of growth in our industry. He will also play an important role in working with our partner, the National Waste and Recycling Association."

Hickey brings 30 years of business-to-business media sales and management experience, including leadership of Penton's Telephony. He has managed print, digital, marketing services and conferences in a variety of industries – telecommunications, data networking, natural and organic foods, and pharmaceuticals - in roles from territory management to group publisher.

He will continue to be based out of Penton’s Chicago office and report to Bimblick.

Said Hickey, "Our mission (at Penton) is to deliver practical and creative channels that help both our advertising customers – as well as our loyal readers and attendees – stay on top of their game. I am pleased to take on this new strategic role to make sure we are doing that, every day."
