The city of San Francisco announced on Thursday that it intends to award its landfill disposal contract to SF Recycling & Disposal Inc., a subsidiary of Recology. The city will now negotiate a contract for consideration by its Board of Supervisors.

SF Recycling & Disposal says it would ship solid waste from San Francisco by rail to its Recology Ostrom Road landfill in Yuba County, Calif. Shipping the waste to the landfill would “double the number of jobs at the site; develop an increased tax base for the county; and stabilize and keep disposal costs low, resulting in savings to local rate payers,” according to a press release issued by the company.
