Solid Waste Commission OKs Tipping Fee Hike; Now it Goes to City and County Commissioners

The joint Rome-Floyd County Solid Waste Commission on Tuesday unanimously recommended a 3-percent increase to tipping fees at the Walker Mountain Landfill, increases expected to become effective next year.

The issue now will proceed to the City and County commissions, which must approve the rate hike before it becomes effective Jan. 1.

The increase won’t affect those who dispose of bagged trash at the landfill. It will affect people who dump unbagged garbage, or items such as furniture and carpet.
