Tentative Agreement Reached on $3.3B Contract to Bring NYC Trash to Seneca Meadows by Rail

 Seneca Meadows Landfill and the New York City Department of Sanitation have tentatively agreed on a contract that would bring garbage from the Big Apple to the Salcman Road landfill by railroad for the next two to three decades.

The city would pay the landfill $3.3 billion over the life of the contract to handle up to 2,495 tons of city waste each day.

The landfill currently accepts about 1,415 tons of city waste each day, all brought to Seneca County by truck.

“There are some pending legal matters,” said Kathy Dawkins, director of public affairs for the New York City Department of Sanitation. “Once finalized, the contract goes to the city comptroller. The city anticipates having the contract registered by the comptroller, as required by law, within the next few months.”
