This Week in Waste: Top Stories for July 22 – July 25
This Week in Waste brings you the week's top stories from Waste360.com. This week features a fire report, recycling markets, and a big acquisition.
#5 - Turning Trash into Treasure Through Private-Public Partnerships
According to a recent study by Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), U.S. landfills emit methane at levels 51% higher than previously estimated by the EPA. This eye-opening research highlights the urgent need for nationwide action.
#4 - Montrose Environmental Group Partners with Waste Connections to Use Patented PFAS Treatment System to Address PFAS-Impacted Landfill Leachate
Montrose Environmental Group, Inc. ("Montrose") (NYSE: MEG), a high-growth global environmental solutions company, and Waste Connections (TSX/NYSE: WCN), today shared insight into the use of Montrose's patented per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) treatment system to address PFAS-impacted landfill leachate at Waste Connections' Champ Landfill.
#3 - The Good, the Bad and the Meh: Midsummer Recycling Markets
A bit more than halfway through the year, MRF recycling markets are blowing hot, cold, and indifferent. On the hot side are old corrugated containers (OCC), residential mixed paper (RMP), PET bottles, and aluminum cans. Steel cans and colored HDPE bottles are cold. Natural HDPE bottles and polypropylene (PP) packaging are kind of meh. At least prices aren’t as volatile as the summer of 2021 when most recyclables set record highs only to watch them disappear.
#2 - July 2024 Fire Report: We Are Trending in the Wrong Direction
If you're like me, you dislike when people start a conversation by saying, “Would you like the good news or the bad news first?” Clearly, I want only the good news, but now I must make the unenviable choice of either starting with the bad news in an effort to get it over with quickly or hearing the good news first and then being devastated by the bad.
#1 - Terex Signs Agreement to Purchase Environmental Solutions Group (ESG) in $2 Billion Cash Deal
Norwalk, Conn.-based Terex Corporation has agreed to purchase Environmental Solutions Group (ESG) from Dover Corporation. The $2 billion all-cash transaction includes solid waste industry brands Heil, Marathon, Curotto-Can, and Bayne Thinline, as well as digital solutions such as 3rd Eye and Soft-Pak.
