Long-time waste industry veteran Tom Cassidy died Feb. 7. He was 61.

The Pennsylvania native worked for Caterpillar, Chambers Development, Caron and Rusmar. He had extensive knowledge of heavy equipment, landfill operations and equipment maintenance.

Cassidy also was a U.S. Army veteran.

"Tom was never too busy to take the time to help out a colleague or field person," said Al Sabino of Rutland, Vt.-based Casella Waste Systems Inc., in a statement supplied by the company. "His positive approach will be missed."

He is survived by his wife, Lisa; daughter Colleen Deist; and three grandchildren.
