Waste, Recycling Association Launches New England Chapter

The National Waste & Recycling Association (Waste & Recycling) has formed a new chapter representing companies in Maine and New Hampshire.

The Washington-based association said the new group will be called the Northern New England Chapter, according to an association news release. It is the first chapter added to the association since the formation of the Alabama Chapter in May 2013.

The chapter will feature two state-focused operating committees – one each for Maine and for New Hampshire. T.J. Troiano, from Troiano’s Waste in Portland, Maine, is expected to become the chapter’s chairman and lead the Maine operating committee.

For now, the New Hampshire operating committee will be directed by the members’ New Hampshire company voting representatives.

 “This new chapter reflects the continued geographic expansion of the association, and in particular, the importance of Casella Waste Systems, which recently joined Waste & Recycling, as a major player in northern New England,” said Sharon Kneiss, president and CEO of the association.

The new chapter will advocate for pending legislation in Maine calling for a new study about how to finance the state’s integrated waste program. Chapter members hope to see suchlegislation become law before the 2015 legislative session.

In addition to Troiano’s Waste, initial members of the Northern New England Chapter include Casella Waste Systems, Charles George Trucking, Clean Energy, E.L. Harvey & Sons, Waste Management Inc., ReEnergy, Oceanside Rubbish and Republic Services.

Waste & Recycling currently has 26 chapters in 29 states and the District of Columbia.
