Sanchez Recycling, a Placentia, Calif., recycling company, owes $113,000 in back wages and damages to seven of its workers, who were paid in cash and denied overtime.

Sanchez is the second recycling company in Orange County, Calif., to be hit with this violation in less than three months. In March, Garcia Recycling was ordered to pay $200,378 to 15 workers for wage and hour violations.

U.S. Labor Department inspectors found that Sanchez’ employees worked as much as 65 hours over the course of six days without receiving overtime pay or compensation for the time they spent driving between the company’s Orange County location and its Riverside County location.

The Orange County Register has more:

A Placentia recycling company was ordered to pay $113,000 in back wages and damages to its workers, as part of a sweeping crackdown on the industry in Southern California, the U.S. Labor department announced Wednesday.

Sanchez Recycling, which also runs collection centers in Anaheim, Corona and Perris, cheated seven workers, compensating them in cash, denying them overtime pay and failing to keep records, officials said.

The case was the second Orange County recycling investigation announced in less than three months. In March, the department forced Garden Grove-based Garcia Recycling to pay 15 workers $200,378 for wage and hour violations.

The companies are owned by brothers. Alfredo Garcia Sanchez is president and owner of Sanchez Recycling. Jesus Garcia owns Garcia Recycling.
