Gaza Struggling with Landfill Fire, Fears Environmental Catastrophe
A landfill fire in Gaza has grown beyond what local fire departments can handle. Gaza is now requesting international assistance before catastrophe strikes.
A landfill in a community near Israel has gone up in flames and Gaza is now requesting assistance as it fears the fire could rage on for days and could be “an environmental catastrophe.”
The city of Gaza said that the fire started “in the eastern part of the landfill in Juhr al-Deek, southeast of Gaza City, near the separation fence.” No reason has been confirmed for the source of the fire.
Local fire departments do not possess the resources to contain the fire, according to Gaza, and prevent it from spreading, causing environmental harm. International assistance has been requested to help put out the fire.
