N.Y.’s Allegany County Landfill to Stop Accepting Private Waste Next Month
The Allegany County Landfill in New York will stop accepting waste from local haulers on July 9.
The county, which expects to stop accepting waste from transfer stations by the end of October, is currently moving forward with a proposal to use $3 million in Solid Waste reserves to close the landfill, according to Department of Public Works Superintendent Guy James.
The county also recently accepted bids from three area landfills—Casella Waste Systems in Angelica, the Steuben County landfill in Bath and Waste Management in Chaffee—that are willing to accept waste from the transfer stations in Allegany county.
Olean Times Herald has more information:
Local garbage haulers will have to keep on trucking past Belmont as the Allegany County-owned landfill stops accepting their waste July 9.
Department of Public Works Superintendent Guy James said a proposal to use $3 million in Solid Waste reserves to close the landfill is moving ahead as the final loads of garbage roll in.
“We will still be taking garbage from the transfer stations to top it off,” James said. “We’ve got a really small footprint up there,” so private haulers will have to go to another site.
