A new 8,000-acre, 12.5 square mile landfill is in the planning stages in Lake County, Oregon.
With one resident per square mile, the area is enticing because of low population. The current Knott Landfill is 200 acres, which would make the proposed cite more than 40 times larger.
The proposed landfill would take household and non-hazardous waste. Construction is estimated to cost more than $11 million.
