Prince William County Opens New Recycling Facility at Landfill

For a long time in Prince William County, one of the impediments to recycling was something the ancients learned how to deal with eons ago: rain.
County officials thought that potential recyclers were somewhat discouraged by the drop-off location for the program — which takes household hazardous waste and electronics — on the side of a dirt and gravel road at the county’s landfill on Dumfries Road in the Independent Hill area.
But early last week, officials opened a new building at the landfill that they hope will promote greater involvement in the county’s recycling program, which processed 1,335,020 pounds of electronics and 146,680 pounds of hazardous chemicals and materials in fiscal 2014.
