Residents Prepare to Voice Concerns Over Landfill Contamination in Washington
Residents will be able to voice their concerns in a public hearing over a landfill's contamination in their area.
Stemming from environmental concerns over a landfill in Yakima, Wash., residents will be able to weigh in on a Zoom call to address the issues.
The state’s Department of Ecology will hold the public hearing on March 15 regarding the contamination issues at DTG Recycle, a limited purpose landfill.
The landfill was deemed a cleanup site after Ecology found it was emitting unsafe amounts of benzene and naphthalene back in October 2022.
The findings came after locals voiced their concerns over dust and odors emitting from the operation. Ecology officials have said the contaminants could be coming from the petroleum contaminate site, although DTG has not been accepting new soil contaminated by petroleum.
