The first phase of an upgrade to lower emissions at the Lopez Energy Landfill in Lake View Terrace has been completed, and work on the final phase will start in September, officials said Thursday.
The facility, operated by White Plains, New York-based Fortistar, converts methane at the closed Lopez Canyon Landfill into electricity and has a contract with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power for the next 20 years.
On Thursday, officials opened it up for a tour.
The utility started receiving power from the station in January of this year.
