MedPro Waste Disposal LLC has purchased Medmentum Inc.’s medical waste transporting operations for an undisclosed amount.

Naperville, Ill.-based MedPro has acquired all Medmentum’s local hauling operations, according to a news release. Chicago-based Medmentum is a medical waste disposal franchise development company.

MedPro now will serve directly all Medmentum customers.

“We have had a long and successful partnership with Medmentum, and we look forward to offering their customers excellent waste disposal services,” said MedPro President Dan Hansen.

MedPro was founded in 2009 as a low-cost alternative provider of medical waste disposal service. The company has added what it claims is a first-of-its-kind pharmaceutical waste disposal mail-back service, and an online Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance training program. The company has a presence in more than 40 states through a combination of direct route and local hauling partnerships.

The medical waste business has seen some significant acquisitions this summer. In July medical waste giant Stericycle Inc. agreed to purchase information destruction firm Shred-it International for $2.3 billion. The Lake Forest, Ill.-based Stericycle said the purchase strengthens the company’s growth opportunities by providing an additional business-to-business compliance solution, taking advantage of the company’s existing core capabilities and expanding its global reach.

Also that month, medical and hazardous waste management firm Sharps Compliance Corp. acquired collection company Alpha Bio/Med Services LLC for an undisclosed amount. Alpha Bio/Med, based in Paradise, Pa., is a route-based pickup service. It has revenue of $30 million, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Houston-based Sharps also said it is launching a company-sponsored route-based pickup operation in Texas, serving the Texas cities of Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Austin, as well as Shreveport, La.
