Novolex, a developer and manufacturer of packaging products across multiple industries, announced it has acquired the assets of American Twisting, a manufacturer of twisted paper handles.

American Twisting, a family-owned business that has been in operation for more than 100 years, produces twisted paper cords, recyclable tying cords, paper-covered wires, and the previously mentioned bag handles for paper bags. The company is located in South Haven, Mich., where eligible full-time employees are expected to join Novolex following the acquisition.

“American Twisting is an excellent addition to our company, and we welcome their skilled and committed team to the Novolex family,” said Stan Bikulege, Chairman and CEO of Novolex.

“I’m confident that our long-standing relationship with American Twisting and their steadfast commitment to safety will ensure a smooth integration into Novolex operations.”

Novolex’s Duro paper bags have been using American Twisting’s twisted handles for more than 30 years. The twisted handles will be in full, dedicated supply to produce paper bags at Novolex’s 56 manufacturing facilities following the acquisition.

“We’re excited to be joining the Novolex family, which we know well given our long history of doing business together,” said Tom Phelps, co-owner of American Twisting.

“Novolex has a strong tradition of welcoming independent businesses into its operations, and I’m certain that the business will continue to provide superior-quality materials and prosper as part of Novolex."

The value of the transaction was not disclosed in Novolex’s press release.
