This week, Summa Equity, an impact investment firm, announced it has acquired a majority stake in Bollegraaf Group, a leading innovator in the waste sorting and recycling sector.

Roughly a year ago, Summa released a report titled, “Investing in a Circular and Waste-Free Europe,” which explained why a €230 billion investment would be required by 2040 for new physical assets and infrastructure to move forward towards a circular economy in Europe.

“Bollegraaf is a key enabler in decarbonizing the materials system. As a leader in the recycling industry, we’re proud to be working with them to continue the evolution of their innovative and circular solutions,” said Bertrand Camus, Thematic Partner at Summa Equity.

In the press release, Summa explains that it sees Bollegraaf as a good fit for their resource efficiency theme. Summa’s ability to enhance the company’s strategies to create long-term value and address critical global challenges makes for a strong partner for Bollegraf who has provided clients with high returns on investments and circularity with state-of-the-art innovative recycling solutions.

“Bollegraaf is a frontrunner in the recycling industry. We are convinced that in partnership with Summa, Bollegraaf can accelerate further growth and drive the transition to a circular economy. Together with Summa, we can invest in innovation and advanced technologies and improve the solutions for our clients through strategic acquisitions. Summa’s industry advisor network is also playing a crucial role in uncovering new opportunities to enhance our efforts,” Edmund Tenfelde, CEO of Bollegraaf Group.

Bollegraaf has spent years becoming a leader in the recycling industry, providing waste management companies worldwide with sorting installations and machinery. The solutions from the company help reduce carbon footprints associated with material processing and recycling while increasing recycling rates.
