In response to numerous odor complaints from residents, Waste Management has installed 11 new gas-extraction wells at the LCS Services Landfill in Hedgesville, W. Va., in an attempt to resolve its odor problem. With the new wells, the company will be able to collect and remove additional landfill gas to control landfill gas odors, according to Waste Management spokeswoman Lisa Kardell.

Eleven gas-extraction wells recently installed at a landfill in Berkeley County, W.Va., are expected to help control odors, which have been the subject of multiple complaints for the last few years, officials said Wednesday.
Waste Management spokeswoman Lisa Kardell said the company, which owns the LCS Services Landfill near Hedgesville, W.Va., is in the process of connecting the wells to a gas-collection piping system and the facility's existing flare that burns the gas.
