Pasadena, Cali. will be ramping up its enforcement of the city’s residential organic waste recycling program to keep up with impending state audits.
Pasadena Officials reported that the city’s food waste and yard trimming diversion program has been a huge success, composting 91,504 tons of yard waste since 2020.
“We’ve been tagging cans for the last 20 years, so we’re already used to this, but it’s now going to getting to the point that we’re going to have a couple of fellows that we have from the governor’s office come out and work with us in the next few months because CalRecycle in the next 16 months is going to come out and tip every lid of every can in the City themselves.”
Each trash can in the city will be reviewed once a year to ensure proper sorting is taking place. The city’s initiative aligns with SB 1383, which looks to reduce methane emissions through mandated organic recycling programs.
