Coca-Cola Pledges to Achieve a 70% Plastic Packaging Recycling Rate by 2025
As part of the New Plastics Economy initiative, Coca-Cola has pledged to increase its recycling rate of plastic packaging from 14 percent to 70 percent by 2025.
Coca-Cola has joined the New Plastics Economy initiative, an Ellen MacArthur Foundation initiative that aims to unravel systemic stalemates in recycling plastic and implement an effective and efficient plastic packaging system.
As part of the initiative, Coca-Cola has pledged to increase its recycling rate of plastic packaging from 14 percent to 70 percent by 2025. The company currently sells products in a 30 percent bioPET bottle called Plant Bottle, which is fully recyclable and made partially from plants.

Launched in May 2016 by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, The New Plastics Economy is a cross-industry, CEO-led global initiative with the goal of unravelling systemic stalemates in recycling plastic and implementing an effective plastics packaging system.
At the World Economic Forum in Davos this month, a new action plan was put forward to increase reuse and recycling of plastic packaging to 70%. The report is endorsed by more than 40 industry leaders, with core partners including Coca-Cola, Danone, Mars and Unilever.
