San Antonio Bans Plastic Bags from Recycling Bins Starting in August

In a move to protect machinery and make recycling easier on the recyclers, the city of San Antonio is banning all plastic bags from curbside collections later this summer.

In a move to protect machinery and make recycling easier on the recyclers, the city of San Antonio is banning all plastic bags from curbside collections later this summer.

Beginning on August 1, residents will no longer be able to place plastic bags in their recycling bins. San Antonio’s Solid Waste Management will no longer accept plastic bags, even if they are bundled together. Plastic bags can create quite a headache for recycling centers if they become tangled with other materials and they can get stuck in machines leading to costly malfunctions.

The city is encouraging residents to drop off their plastic bags at retailer kiosks and to ditch the use of plastic bags altogether.
