Washington, D.C. — On Tuesday, July 20, the Washington, D.C.-based Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s new mandatory training requirements for entry-level commercial drivers license (CDL) drivers go into effect. As of that date, newly hired entry-level CDL drivers cannot operate a commercial vehicle in interstate commerce without training in hours of service, wellness, health and whistleblower protection. Entry-level drivers already employed on the date must complete the training by Oct. 18. The new rules do not apply to CDL drivers involved in intrastate commerce, but states could adopt the new regulations.
