Georgia Residents Opposed to More Coal Ash Going into Jesup Landfill

Republic Services has a 50-year deal to operate the Broadhurst Environmental Landfill in Wayne County, but some residents are launching an effort to stop the company from expanding its use of the landfill.

"I wish we had done this is 2004, but we had no inkling," said Dink NeSmith, a property owner and chairman of the local newspaper.

NeSmith is opposed to giving the company a permit which would allow it to increase the amount of coal ash that may be disposed in the landfill.
