In June, Republic Services’ contract with the City of Flint was set to come to an end, leaving the city’s trash service in limbo. Flint Mayor Karen Weaver had recommended Rizzo Environmental Services to take over the city’s trash services, but she was ruled out by the council who voted 8-1 against her recommendation.

On July 29, a Genesee County Circuit Court ruling stated that Weaver could choose between Republic continuing its services or suspend trash collection altogether until further court action. The mayor chose to suspend the collection services, once again leaving the city’s trash service in limbo.
