DeWitt, N.Y., is the latest municipality exploring adding solar panels to a former landfill.

Earlier this month, New Jersey’s largest utility, PSE&G, said it was looking to invest $275 million to build 10 solar projects, including on some landfills.

However, in April, Niagara County, N.Y., scrapped a plan to cover acres of land with solar panels.

TWC News has the report:

The town is planning to build a two megawatt solar array on the site of its former landfill.

The solar panels would go on the hills across the canal from Cedar Bay Road.

Officials said the array would be built by a private company, which would then sell electricity back to the town.
