Amazon Ditches Plastic Air Pillows, Shifts to Recycled Paper Filler for Packages

Online mega-giant retailer Amazon is ditching old plastic air pillows in favor of recycled paper to stuff its packages in an environmentally friendly shift.

Online mega-giant retailer Amazon is ditching old plastic air pillows in favor of recycled paper to stuff its packages in an environmentally friendly shift.

Amazon said this week that it has already removed 95% of the plastic air pillows and replaced the materials with paper filler throughout North America. Once Amazon can remove the plastic air pillows completely, it will remove nearly 15 billion pieces of plastic filler annually, the largest plastic reduction for the company in North America.

“We want to ensure that customers receive their items undamaged while using as little packaging as possible to avoid waste, and prioritizing recyclable materials,” Amazon said Thursday.
