Waste Pro USA begins 2011 with 10 acquisitions in the South.
Talk about starting off the year on an aggressive note. In early February, Longwood, Fla.-based Waste Pro USA announced that it has either acquired or has reached agreements to buy a total of 10 waste companies and landfills in the South.

“Waste Pro is significantly expanding our footprint throughout the South, both organically and by acquiring companies with our culture,” said John J. Jennings, president and CEO of Waste Pro, in a statement.
Waste Pro serves more than 1.4 million residential and 37,000 commercial customers throughout the South.
In other acquisition news:
• Milwaukee-based Veolia ES Solid Waste has purchased Valdosta, Ga.-based Milo Sanitation. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition will add 4,000 residential customers and 60 commercial customers to Veolia’s existing operations in the area. The waste collected from the new customers will disposed of at the Veolia ES Evergreen Landfill in Valdosta.
All Milo Sanitation employees have been offered positions with Veolia ES Solid Waste.
“The acquisition of these assets is consistent with our strategy to expand our operations in the southern Georgia region, and we were pleased to offer existing Milo Sanitation employees the opportunity to become a part of Veolia,” said Jim Long, president and CEO of Veolia ES Solid Waste.
• Kansas City, Kan.-based Deffenbaugh Industries has purchased Roll Off Service Inc. and Advantage Recycling, both of which are located in Bethel Heights, Ark. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Combined, the two firms purchased by Deffenbaugh provide collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services to about 25,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers.
“We are committed to growing our core business of solid waste and recycling services, and Roll Off Service and Advantage fit well within the long-term business model we are pursuing,” said John King, senior vice president of operations for Deffenbaugh.
