Lawsuit Involving Garbage Truck Driver Settles for $750,000
A settlement was agreed upon shortly after the conclusion of opening arguments.
A trial in Coweta County, Ga., involving garbage truck driver Kent White, who sustained a serious injury after being struck by a tractor-trailer, settled for $750,000 shortly after opening arguments had concluded. Attorneys for the plaintiff said a crucial factor in the speed of the settlement was the admission of video testimony from an eyewitness.
White sued the driver of the trailer and the driver’s employer, Pemberton Truck Lines, in 2017. The two sides were unable to come to a settlement during court-ordered mediation, but it didn’t take long to find an agreement once the trial had begun.
Daily Report has more information:
Butler handled the case with his Butler Tobin law partner, Darren Tobin, and Atlanta solo Ronnie Mabra Jr.
In a statement, Tobin said the case “settled so early, it feels a little like we got all dressed up, then had no place to go, but it was a good settlement number, and our client is pleased.”
Defense lawyers Kathleen Hurley and Maggie Beall of Cruser, Mitchell, Novitz, Sanchez, Gaston & Zimet did not respond to requests for comment Tuesday.
According to Butler and court filings, the accident happened in Coweta County in 2015 on Ga. 16 between Carrollton and Newnan.
