NYC Plastic Bag Fee Could Be Postponed Again
Lawmakers will cast their votes tomorrow, which will ultimately give the city more time to study alternative plans.

The New York City Council voted in June 2016 to postpone the city’s proposed five-cent fee on plastic bags until February 2017. And now, New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie announced that lawmakers will vote on legislation to yet again postpone New York City’s impending fee on plastic shopping bags.
The state Senate has already voted to stop the fee from going into effect, and now lawmakers will cast their votes tomorrow, which will ultimately give the city more time to study alternative plans.

New York City’s impending fee on plastic shopping bags appears headed for the garbage, or at least the recycling bin, after state Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie on Friday said lawmakers would soon vote on legislation to postpone it.
Heastie, a Bronx Democrat, said his chamber would vote Tuesday on legislation to delay the city’s plan to provide time to study alternatives.
