Phoenix-based Republic Services reported that it saw an 18 percent reduction in total accidents and injuries during its 2010 Summer Safety program compared to the same period in 2009. According to a press release, the firm launched its 101 Days of Summer Safety campaign in June to raise safety awareness from Memorial Day to Labor Day, a time of year when the industry has historically seen an increase in accidents and injuries.

As part of the campaign, each Republic division developed its own summer safety plan and tracked its progress by displaying a banner counting down the remaining days.
