St. Paul, Minn., Trash Collection Lawsuit Dismissed

A county district court judge just dismissed a trash collection lawsuit against the city, and now, an appeal is underway.

A lawsuit against the city of St. Paul, Minn., over organized trash collection has been dismissed by a county district court judge this week.

The lawsuit, brought on by the city’s financial analyst, claimed the city’s pricing system has violated the state’s Waste Management Act. The ruling is expected to be appealed.

A Ramsey County District Court judge has dismissed a lawsuit against the city of St. Paul over organized trash collection, but an appeal is already underway.

On Monday, Ramsey County District Court Judge Thomas Gilligan officially dismissed the suit brought by St. Paul financial analyst Peter Butler.

Butler, who had represented himself in the suit filed May 21, claimed that the city’s pricing system violated the state’s Waste Management Act, which seeks to promote recycling and waste reduction.
