$1.5 Million to RI Towns for Recyclables

Wednesday was payday for Rhode Island’s 39 cities and towns — for doing the job of recycling.
The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation handed out checks Wednesday morning to the municipalities for their yearly share of the profits from selling recyclables. The municipal profits for the year ending June 30, 2014, totaled $1,502,616.16.
Warwick recycled the most, 10,343 tons, and got the biggest profit, $147,670.42, followed by Cranston and Providence. Charlestown was at the bottom of the list, with 397 tons and $5,673.45 in profit.
