A lithium battery fire at Inmetco, a metals recycling plant in Ellwood City, sent thick dark smoke into the air Sunday morning and fire companies fought the blaze for most of the day.
According to the Lawrence County 911, 12 fire companies responded to the fire, which was reported at about 9:30 a.m.
Donald Bauder, who lives in Ellwood City about a half- mile from the Inmetco facility, said the smoke from the fire was “blocking the sun” through the morning, and he smelled a faint odor but wasn’t bothered by it.
