Chesterfield Observer
Following a significant concession from Dominion Virginia Power, the Board of Supervisors last week approved the utility company’s plan to build a coal ash landfill at its Chesterfield power station.
Several citizens objected, arguing that the county should require Dominion to excavate tons of coal ash currently stored in unlined ponds and move the material into the modern, lined landfill once it is constructed.
But their concerns about the potential long-term environmental impact of those ponds failed to sway three of the four supervisors present at last week’s meeting.
