The city of Carmel, Ind. wants to fine Republic Services $20,000 per day for missed services during inclement weather.

Recent snow storms have made it difficult for city services to continue on a regular basis. Mayor Carmel Jim Brainard said an agreement was reached for Republic to collect trash on a delayed basis, waiting until streets are clear. Waste was not picked up until after the weekend.

"Due to the severe winter storm that has been affecting many areas across the country, we made an initial decision to suspend service on Thursday," Republic said in a statement. "We continued to monitor conditions and the forecast and determined that it would not be safe to operate on Friday."
