Deschutes County commissioners signed a letter of intent with OSU-Cascades on Monday and began a negotiation process that could lead to the university purchasing the county’s former demolition landfill on Bend’s west side.
The 76-acre landfill site is adjacent to the 10 acres the university is developing near the SW Century Drive and Chandler Avenue roundabout.
The agreement doesn’t require the university to purchase the landfill. According to the agreement, the university will develop ways to clean up the landfill before potentially buying the land.
“Having access to some or all of the landfill in the future would potentially enhance development of the OSU-Cascades campus,” the agreement states.
