Global Waste Management Symposium (GWMS) 2018, North America's No. 1 technical conference for the presentation of applied and fundamental research and case studies on waste management, kicks off today at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa in Indian Wells, Calif., and runs through Wednesday, February 14.
The event will welcome an expected 600 participants and include a number of education sessions on topics such as anaerobic digestion, leachate characterization, elevated temperature landfills, recycling and diversion, composting, health and safety, landfill gas management and financing the transition to a zero waste future.
GWMS will also provide attendees with a chance to network with sponsors and exhibitors who are waiting to help them solve their latest waste and recycling challenges.
"Welcome to GWMS 2018! This year's event will be our largest yet with close to 600 participants. The technical program is outstanding, with content and breakthrough research from the Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) and our esteemed committees that is worth the two-year wait,” says Waste360 Vice President and Market Leader Mark Hickey. “GWMS was built to help you connect with intelligent colleagues from around the world. To that end, be sure to join us at our many receptions and networking opportunities to get the most out of your time here. "
This year’s event will feature two must-attend keynote sessions:
How to Finance the Transition to a Zero Waste Future
In this keynote session on Monday, February 12, Terry Tamminen, CEO of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation and co-founder of the Planet Pledge Fund, will address why the biggest economic opportunity in the history of the planet is figuring out how to finance the transition to a zero waste future.
State of Solid Waste: A Financial Perspective on Sustainable Materials Management
On Monday, February 12, Stifel Managing Director Michael E. Hoffman will explain where the business cycle for solid waste is relative to the long-term industry trends and the overall economic cycle and how it’s framed against the four phases of the business cycle: expansion, peak, contraction and trough.
