Jackson, Miss. Approves Emergency Contract for Trash Collection
After almost three weeks without trash collection, Jackson, Miss. has come to terms on a contract with Richard's Disposal to resume trash services.

The Jackson City Council in Mississippi has approved an emergency contract with trash collection company, Richard’s Disposal, to resume trash collection. Residents of Jackson have been without a trash service since April 1.
A deal was reached earlier this week after a court hearing and hours of negotiations were had between council members, the mayor, attorneys, and a special judge to oversee the court proceedings.
“We were able to achieve and have an even cheaper price, even lower price out of this agreement for the service,” said Ward 6 Councilman Aaron Banks on Monday. “I think that one of the things that’s going to be important moving forward is that we don’t end up back here again.”
Trash service stopped on April 1 after a settlement with Richard’s Disposal expired. The new emergency contract is for one year and is expected to save taxpayers $2 million over the next year.
