Due to a change in policy at the Waste Management facility in Capitol Heights where the city's recyclables are taken, Bowie officials are asking resident not to include plastic bags with their other recyclables for curbside pickup starting this week.
Instead, residents are being asked to take their old plastic bags to retail stores that recycle them separately. Stores that accept plastic bags for recycling include groceries like Giant and Safeway, plus outlets such as Best Buy, Home Depot, Kohl's, Lowe's, Macy's, Target, and Walmart.
"We've got to make this change and it's a big change in habit," said Una Cooper, city communications coordinator.
