The Ontario County Landfill has a shortage of on-site soil to cover its solid waste on a daily basis.
Casella Waste Systems, operator of the 389-acre landfill for the county, has asked for state Department of Environmental Conservation approval to use two different alternate daily cover materials.
That request will be made known to the Environmental Quality Committee of the Board of Supervisors Wednesday.
Landfill General Manager Kevin Shaw, in a Feb. 20 letter to DEC Region 8 Division of Materials Management Director Edward Kieda, asked that his letter be a formal request for permission to use a fabric tarp or a slurry-style spray as alternative cover materials.
